A Fool at the Zero Point
|Zero Point is an institute for the
investigation of the esoteric mystical and spiritual teachings of
The aim is to examine the basis of such teachings by relating them to
science, philosophy and psychology. Our hope is that this work will
to make the profound wisdom teachings more accessible to people,
them into the public forum, into science and into the educational
From a mystical perspective, the so-called "institutes of higher
particularly universities, almost completely neglect these most
areas of study. In modern science and psychology, the deep
and realizations of the mystics, saints and Sacred Messengers, are
ignored, despite their profound implications for every area of human
Science lacks a spiritual and metaphysical perspective, and
the most part-completely neglect the ancient idea of "psychology" as a
"science of the soul." However, the many enigmas faced within
psychology and science point to fundamental misunderstandings in common
knowledge, even in knowledge supposedly "scientific." The nature
of human consciousness remains the number one fundamental enigma in
science and life.
It is over thirty years ago, that Dr. Holmes began his studies of these traditions, while a graduate student in clinical psychology interested in the development of consciousness within psychotherapy. The study of western views of consciousness led to the realization that the western science has failed to make any significant progress in resolving the most profound issues of consciousness. In fact, modern thought is seriously misguided in their presumptions about this subject. The central issue can be expressed in terms of the difference between the "head doctrine" of modern science, the belief that consciousness is produced by material, neurological processes centered in the mind, in the head; and the "heart doctrine" of the esoteric traditions, which identifies the deepest levels of Self and the origins of consciousness with the heart. By "heart" is meant not only the physical heart, but the spiritual and divine heart element and Space which underlie it. Dr. Holmes' work Within-Without from Zero Points explores not only the mysteries of consciousness and the heart, but further, the idea of the "point source" origins of Self. A true understanding of these ideas can help to bring about a profound transformation within an individual, as his or her experienced center-of-gravity-of-being, can pass from the mind within the head, to the deeper levels of Self within the Heart. This involves the dissolution of false mind into the lotus of the Heart. This is so easy to express, but so difficult to comprehend in its deep implications.
A second major emphasis in these studies and teachings concerns the general unconscious, sleepwalking state of humankind. People live in a state of forgetfulness about their true nature and do not "remember themselves." As a psychologist, Dr. Holmes draws from his mystical and spiritual studies, and has developed innovative group and individual approaches to psycho-spiritual change. He currently offers program on "the awakening of consciousness and the heart in criminal offenders," as an alternative to the traditional cognitive-behavioural approaches to offender rehabilitation--which ignore the heart and soul, and the awakening of consciousness. He also gives public lectures on the Zero Point Teachings and holds smaller groups within his home and the larger community.
In his life's work, Christopher has shared, grown, discovered and explored with his dear friends and fellow adventurers, Anita J. Mitra, James A. Moffatt.and Karen T. Hale. Jim, Anita and I at one time founded the Institute for Mystical and Spiritual Science in Maple Ontario (1984), the Rainbow Center in downtown Toronto (1986), and the Zero Point Center in Kemptville (1998). Karen currently helps further the aims of Zero Point, and explorations into these explorations within the Hearts and Self. We are very grateful to the enlightened masters and mystics of the ages, who have served to promote the light and love within the Hearts of humankind, and we feel privileged to engage in this investigation of such revealed teachings about the higher dimensional origins of life, and human consciousness.
